I reside in Toronto, Canada which is one of the most expensive cities in the world and for those who are in a similar position have you found some success over the last few years? With the current rake at networks like the GG Network and Party Poker it's no longer an option to play lower than below 25NL, which means playing at 50-100 NL requires more risk since I'm using a bigger bankroll.I am in my mid 30's and I cannot even get close to top 10 on daily leaderboards, which sadly is something that didn't exist decades ago, but the overall rakeback was better. My body does get tired, where I need good and long sleep and then some time for exercise. At this point playing to only min cash the bottom spots daily on those leaderboards playing for an hour is more profitable than reaching 5th-10th spot and receiving close to what the top 30-40 do.Poker brings a lot of stress, requires far more discipline, and for anyone living in an expensive city like me I'm already at a severe disadvantage when playing against players in countries where $250-300 is the average monthly wage. I think it's time for me to take the opportunity that comes from living in a developed country and grind that $200 for 10 hours (8 hours + breaks and travel), and then after travel expenses and taxes that comes down to $175. $4,000 a month is significantly more than what most good players earn these days from online poker, and honestly I would like to be wrong....Finally, that's my EV from 1-2k hands today at NL 25 at the GG Network, and this was probably the nail in the coffin for me and to start waking up to a reality that this is not something I can continue doing, especially not if soon I intend to have bigger responsibilities like a family.
